PANCHKULA: The police were yet to take any action against suspended Devi Nagar post office branch post master Raj Bala for allegedly siphoning around Rs 10 lakh from 50 accounts of investors.
TOI had highlighted the irregularity on September 14, after which Bala was suspended. Temporary charge was handed over to postman Bahadur Singh.
"We are going to wait till Monday. In case, she does not return the money to the villagers, we are going to officially lodge a complaint against her to the police," claimed J K Gulati, superintendent, post office, Ambala.
Raj Bala was earlier given three days to refund the money, but she didn't adhere to the time limit. "She herself promised to return the money but has failed to do so. In case she does not refund the money till Monday, we are not going to exempt her from police inquiry then," he added.
The department was yet to ascertain the scale of the fraud. "We are not aware about the exact figure that Bala has embezzled. But we have requested all investors to check their accounts. A large number of people have approached us to get their accounts checked till now," said Pankaj Jain, sub-divisional inspector (post), Panchkula.
People were still anxious, hoping for quick action against the accused. "I hope we get our money back soon. Police should put her behind the bars at the earliest so that she does not commit the fraud again," said Hardeep Singh, a resident of Devi Nagar.
"We are investigating the case and will take action after receiving an official complaint by the department," said a police official.
